When do dobermans reach full size

As large dogs, Doberman Pinschers take longer than some dog breeds to reach maturity. Doberman Pinschers will be close to their full size around their first birthday, with most already being at their adult height at this time. However, most Doberman Pinschers will need up to two years to fully fill out their chest and reach their mature weight. A male six-month-old Doberman Pinscher will weigh between 50 to 65 pounds. In contrast, a female six months old Doberman Pinscher puppy will weigh between 45 to 55 pounds.

According to the Official Doberman Pinscher Breed Standards, a male Doberman Pinscher will weigh between 75 and pounds and stand around 26 to 28 inches. A female Doberman Pinscher will weigh less than her male counterpart at 60 to 90 pounds and stand about 24 to 26 inches 2.

Doberman Pinschers are purebred dogs that are at a greater risk of genetic diseases. It is difficult to give exact numbers here, but a six month old is looking very much like an adult, but slightly smaller. This time period is one of continued growth and maturing for the puppy.

The females are usually close to being done growing height wise. They will continue to fill out and mature over the next year. The males will continue to grow and mature over the next year and may even put on a slight amount of height, until they reach their adult maximum. The wither is the highest point of the Dobermans back, just behind the neck and before the back. The measurement is taken from the wither to the ground. At 12 months, a Doberman is considered an adult, as most upward growth is finished.

The filling out and maturing will continue for more than a year. The Dobermans lifespan is about 9. The adult phase of their life is from one year old until the dog reaches about 7.

These years are when the Doberman is most active, and is doing most of the family activities, show events such as Obedience and Agility and just enjoying life with his people. The training and Obedience is done and life is good. Puppyhood is over and you can trust the Doberman more as that tendency to chew and destroy with his mouth because of teething is over. This is a great time for both Doberman and his family. At seven years old, the Doberman is considered a senior or a Veteran, according to the Show language.

Like female Doberman pinschers, many males of the breed stop gaining height once they're between 7 and 12 months old. They also develop thicker bodies during this time. Male Doberman pinschers sometimes even tack on some additional height during this time frame, although not a lot.

The "thickening" body changes sometimes keep up even when the males are a bit over 2 years in age. Big male dogs are similarly "sluggish" as females regarding reaching reproductive maturity.

It occasionally takes them 15 months to achieve sexually mature status. These sizable dogs are full of vitality and liveliness, and therefore need lots of vigorous exercise -- more than canines of many smaller breeds.

They embody the best family pet traits of the breed while being a size that is very suitable for family life. Their appearance could be accurately described as tone and agile, making them perfect outdoor exercise companions.

Some American dogs may exceed these sizes, but it is not as common as it is for dogs from European lines. These dogs have a very muscular build that indicates their natural strength and of course, means additional weight. The European Doberman is bread to a standard that keeps the dog true to its original purpose as a working dog.

The European Doberman breed standard states that males should be between 88 to 99 pounds and females between 71 and 77 pounds. In terms of height, it states that males should be between 27 and 28 inches and females between 25 and 27 inches. The difference is simply that the American breed standard seems to allow for a broader range of heights and weights in their dogs while the European standard is more precise.

These dogs generally take longer than American Dobermans to achieve their adult levels of muscle mass. Physical strength is very evident in the appearance of these dogs. Males stop growing in height at about the same time females do, or at around 1 year of age. However, from about 1 to 2 years of age, the males will put on more muscle mass than females will.

This additional muscle mass is likely what accounts for some of the weight differences between these two sexes. Males likely grow larger and stronger than their female counterparts due to the additional testosterone hormones. This is one reason neutering a male Doberman early on affects their rate of growth. Females will stop growing in terms of their height at about the same time as males do, or at about 1 year of age.

Female Dobermans have less muscle mass and are smoother, and more elegant, in appearance as compared to their male counterparts. You can read more about their differences in my article all about the differences between male and female Dobermans here.

That article will give you a breakdown of the physical, mental, and behavioral differences between the sexes. This can progress up to as late as 1 year of age. That means the dog is quickly gaining size and weight. Owners often decide to have their dogs spayed or neutered at this age to combat some of the more difficult behavior. A Doberman this age is big enough to be challenging to handle without proper training, making a good Doberman-specific training strategy all the more critical.

Even though there is a small variation between males and females in size, Dobermans have a fairly uniform size and build.
