The first life-saving station in the area was established on the north end in A two-story structure was constructed in the early s to house workers for the Mansfield Jetty the south jetty for Aransas Pass. Full restrooms and showers with hot water are located near the water-electric campground. The three segments of the trail follow the western shoreline of the island in Corpus Christi Bay. The 20 miles of trails pass through some of the best shallow-water fishing areas in Texas.
